She has previously released on the NYC-based house music label Ibadan a single produced by Haitian artist Jephté Guillaume (Destiny Child’s, Wyclef Jean, Mariah Carey). Johanna is also a member of a Paris gospel choir. She sings background vocals and as soloist and at times directs the choir. With the choir Johanna also performed with artists such as Pharrell Williams. Johanna began as a background singer and keyboard player very early on in a rock band called Laplace. They opened for the Rolling Stones at the Olympia in Paris and for several concerts of Simple Minds in France. Johanna also composes film scores. Two songs of her album “the heyday” are in the soundtrack of the film documentary “Obama Mama” of Vivian Norris, which was screened at the Seattle Festival in 2014.
Johanna Saint-Pierre latest release is her EP “The NYC Summer Sessions” of 6 songs produced by Grammy winning producer Brian Bacchus (Gregory Porter, Liquid Spirit ), who also signed/A&R'd Norah Jones' Grammy winning Come Away With Me). The songs were recorded between Paris & NYC. Johanna composed the songs along with Rémi Amblard & co-wrote the lyrics with the American songwriter Valorie Miller. The EP is selected for the French Grammy Music Awards The style is mainly funky pop with 2 ballads with texts in English and French. The music is reveals influences of Angela Johnson & Stevie Wonder. Johanna’s voice recalls that of the American singer Syreeta (for whom Stevie Wonder wrote albums in the late seventies) or the more contemporary Janelle Monae.
